A doodle artist I stumbled across on Flikr by the name of hanssolo grabbed by attention. A lot of the work seemed, well, like doodles, but there were elements that attracted me. Of course, the repeat/textile quality to the work as well as, probably unintentional, references to Agnes Martin and Sol Lewitt struck me. I also appreciate the free handed, youthful and joyful quality exhibited here.

Hip Bags

These bags were made for the NYC – Something special from Wisconsin 2009 Bike Polo championship. I was thrilled to see Milwaukee’s historic win. I received several points of great input for improving the design including lengthening the strap so it will extend over the shoulder, including a u-lock holster and replacing the lining with something stiffer. I also want to replace the pocket snap with velcro since I am just worried that they will not remain stable. Notice the polo style bike handle bars. They were requested. The bags were made of leather with nylon straps, reflect material for the images and reflective clasps. They are weather resistant and sold for $55.

Thanks to Kevin Walsh for the Photo.

Juarez, MEXICO Color Study

I am currently in Juarez, Mexico. The area I am in is a bit isolated so my afternoons have been a little slow, but I didn’t want to end up sitting in my room since it is so beautiful – 70`F outside, compared to the -10 I will be returning to next week. My friend Leah and I decided to give ourselves the task of finding bright and beautiful images in the form of a color study. It was a fun challenge because for the most part, this place is marked by a lot of dust, cinder blocks and desert bland colors. Because the day was so clear and bright, I was excited by how these images turned out.
